The descriptions of Innsbruck’s Nordkettenbahnen are many: the jewel of the Alps, the mountain of contrasts, the city mountain. Only 20 minutes separate the city of Innsbruck from Austria's largest nature park. It is conveniently located just a few steps from the historic old town; from the Hungerburgbahn Valley Station, the masterpiece of the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid, guests continue to the Seegrubenbahn in the heart of the Nordkette skiing resort. Once you reach the top, you have a 360° view of the capital of the Alps and of the impressive Karwendel Nature Park.

Sane! Spring Break

In spring Innsbruck's snowboarding elite gather on the Seegrube, since at Sane! Spring Break the Nordkette Shape Team and the Sane Gang go all out. As well as the biggest and creative park set-up there is a variety-packed programme of supporting events, with parties and other events.

Hungerburg Seegrube Hafelekar

An alpine-urban experience

Skiing at the Nordkette can be enjoyed along 3 pistes and 5 ski routes with different levels of difficulty. Freeriders especially get their money's worth here, as numerous freeride variants, among them the Hafelekarrinne, the steepest ski route in Europe, inspire with great powder and magnificent views.

The "Nordkette Skyline Park" with its spectacular set-up is the only in-city snow park in the world.

Skiing holidays with an Innsbruck Ski Pass also mean fun for the whole family. Magic carpet, snow hill, and practice slope including child care activities promise lots of fun. Even as a non-skier, a visit to the Nordkette skiing resort with the SKI plus CITY Pass Stubai Innsbruck is an absolute must.
The literal highlight of the excursion is the Hafelekar. The alpine-urban Nordkette experience, as well as the SKI plus CITY Pass Stubai Innsbruck, is completely unique. Nowhere else in the world are breath-taking mountains and a modern city that close.

Hafelekar 2,334m

High above Innsbruck the transition between wild nature and the densely populated Inn Valley becomes visible at the Hafelekar. A contrast that couldn't be stronger. The Austrian mountaineer Hermann Buhl was aware of this distinction and regularly climbed the Hafelekar as preparation for his historic first ascent of the Nanga Parbat.

A Nobel Prize for physics can also be traced back to the Hafelekar. It was here that Victor Franz Hess, Professor of Radiation Research at the University of Innsbruck, discovered cosmic radiation.
